Other issues regarding F-Prot Antivirus for Windows |
- F-Prot Antivirus is slowing down my system
If you believe that F-Prot Antivirus is slowing your system down, please follow this procedure:
Make sure that you are running the most recent version of F-Prot Antivirus.
Run software that detects adware on your computers. For further information, please browse this webpage.
Disable the RealTime Protector (F-StopW) by double-clicking its icon in the right lower corner of your screen. If there is no difference in your system's speed then the problem does not lie with F-Prot Antivirus. If, however, there is a difference in your system's speed, please contact our support department and specify what programs are running in the background of your computer.
- I am receiving the error message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning.
This is related to fast user switching in Windows XP:
When a second user logs on the following error appears:
F-StopW (VDD StartEngine)
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
The RealTime Protector (F-StopW) is running in another user session and the icon is not visible. Nevertheless, the local system is being monitored and will deny malicious files to run.
Please note, this can also happen when using F-Prot Antivirus on terminal servers.
We are working on a fix for this for future versions.
- I am unable to scan network drives. Why?
The single-user version cannot be used to scan network drives. This option is only available in the multi-user version available to those with a commercial license.
- I have installed F-Prot Antivirus on my NT 4.0 Windows 2000 / 2003 / XP and I can not configure the Real Time Protector?
The RealTime Protector does not have a configuration window in Windows 2000, 2003 nor XP. It will be added in future releases.
The RealTime Protector scans by contents so that .EXE files renamed to something else should be scanned.
- The Integrity Checker seems to be missing from my version.
The Integrity Checker is no longer a component in F-Prot Antivirus.
This is due to the fact that in regular Windows Updates it is normal for many objects to change and asking F-Check to fix them might result in the system not rebooting normally.
- What are the e-mail settings in the Settings panel for?
The e-mail settings are for using F-Prot for Windows’ OnDemand Scanner in advanced mode. There you can create a profile for scanning in advanced mode.
You can set it to “send” an e-mail to any e-mail address you want if a virus is found.
In order to send the e-mail the Mail server has to be set in E-Mail Settings under Settings.
